Centralian golf enthusiasts may opt to extend their stay in Iloilo after the Grand Alumni Homecoming as the CPU Alumni Golfers Association (CPU AGA) holds its Invitational Golfer Tournament on October 7, 2017 at the Sta. Barbara Centenary Golf Course, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
According to CPU AGA Secretary Engr. Isagani J. Jalbuena, the event will have a Barrel Tee Off Time from 6:00 AM to 11:00AM. Trophies will be awarded for Open Category, Men, Open Category, Ladies; Open Category Seniors and all Centralian Men and Ladies. The awards will be given in the evening at the Iloilo Golf Course and Country Club, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has a new Presidential Adviser for Western Visayas. Centralian Jane Javellana, an Ilongga businesswoman and entrepreneur, was given the new appointment. A native of Jaro, Iloilo City, Javellana is a graduate of Central Philippine University High School. She finished her BS Accountancy at the University of San Agustin, and her Master’s Degree from the University of the Philippines. She was one of the lead organizers of Duterte’s presidential Campaign in Lapaz, Iloilo City in 2016.
Her office is under the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas. Her duties involve coordinating with different agencies in Western Visayas “to hasten the resolution of immediate concerns, issues and problems of communities in the region.” She added that “Duterte is a working president, and if the problems are identified, he wants it immediately resolved.”
She pointed out opportunities for employment and infrastructure projects, summing up her office’s function as the “bridge between the people of Western Visayas and the President.” The Panay Negros Bridge, international port and tourism are among her priority concerns.
Javellana’s appointment took effect on August 1, 2017, but she started her official duties on September 11.

Centralian Police Senior Inspector Henry F. Biñas, newly assigned Director for Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), visited CPU last September 25, 2017. S/Supt. Biñas paid a courtesy call on the University President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, at the Board of Trustees Conference Room at 2:00 PM. S/Supt. Biñas expressed his gratitude for the education and training he received in CPU. He said that without Central Philippine University, he would not have graduated from college, achieved a lot, and served the people. Furthermore, S/Supt. Biñas recounted his experience as a work student at CPU and how it prepared him for success.
S/Supt. Biñas first enrolled in the CPU College of Agriculture, before he studied at the Philippine Military Academy. Later, he was also admitted to the Philippine National Police Academy. His admission to PNPA changed his career in public service. He was first assigned as a police officer to Negros Occidental where he diligently worked on duties. In fact, instead of going out with friends for fun and drinks, he chose to spend his evenings studying Law at a nearby college. He went on to pass the Bar Exams and as a consequence, he became efficient in working on police-criminal cases.

He proceeded to the Alumni Affairs Office for an afternoon coffee and conversation with some alumni, classmates and friends, where he spent more time recalling fond memories, especially with the faculty and staff of the College of Agriculture. His visit was facilitated by the Security, Safety, and Discipline Office Head, Jonathan Tumalay and CPUAAI President, Dan Dorillo.
For the U-Day celebrations, the ICPO Director registered himself with twenty policemen from the Iloilo City Police Office to join the RCJC Homecoming Run in CPU on September 29, 2017. He assured everyone that he was doing his best to sustain peace and order in the City, and possibly extend a program to support the security at CPU and its surrounding communities.

Allianz, a German company and a corporate partner of the Philippine National Bank (PNB), has signified its support for the Central Philippine University’s U-Day celebrations. In particular, they offered sponsorship to the CPU-Rotary Club of Jaro Centraline Homecoming Run 2017 on September 29, 2017.

It will be a special night on October 20, 2017 as Central Philippine University Cultural Affairs Office brings the CPU Handbell Ringers, CPU Sari-Saot Dance Troupe and the University Day Champions — together with Ms. Katchry Golbin (France Got Talent winner) to perform in “An Evening with Mayor Bing” at the Pavillon Resort Hotel, Bacolod Cityat 6:00 PM. The cultural presentation will also include a surprise number of “The Singing Centralian Kagawads”, Atty. Joshua Alim and Atty. Renecito Novero from Iloilo and Bacolod City, respectively.

Larry Nacionales, CPU College of Agriculture Alumni Association President, and Roberto “Francis” Jalando-on, Jr. Negros Chapter President will be heading the welcoming party of those who will be attending the Grand Reunion of the CPU College of Agriculture. President Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, who will deliver an Inspirational Remarks, and CPU Board of Trustees Chairman, Atty Von Lovel Bedona will also be present during the event. Bacolod City Mayor Bing Leonardia will be greeting everyone on behalf of Bacolod City “the City Smile.”

The Global Alumni Homecoming is organized by the CPUCA, in partnership with the CPU and CPUAAI, and in collaboration with the City Government of Bacolod City.
The CPU Alumni Affairs Office has published a list of new awards to deserving Centralian Alumni in their own fields of profession, position and service. The awards will be presented during the Alumni Homecoming Luncheon at the Rose Memorial Auditorium on September 30, 2017.
To be awarded this year are those newly Appointed Government Officials, Newly Elected University/State College Presidents and Administrators, and Achievers Award (mostly for outstanding students of CPU).
Also to be awarded are the Board Topnotchers for 2017. The awardees will receive cash incentives from CPUAAI. Special citations go to Alumni who have influential positions in organizations, admirable performances and popularity.
The awards have been a tradition of the CPU Alumni Association during the annual Alumni Homecoming celebration at Central Philippine University.

A check amounting to one Hundred Fifteen Thousand Six Hundred Sixty Pesos (P115, 660.00) was received by CPU President Dr. Teodoro C. Robles from the BSN Class of 1992 (Section B) on Friday morning, September 15, 2017 at the CPU Administration Conference Room.
The amount is intended for the Nursing Virtual Laboratory project of the College of Nursing. The BSN Class of 1977 and 1987 among others have previously donated a sum of money for the project. The donations are facilitated by the College of Nursing and are personally given by any group President or their representative to the CPU University President.
According to Atty. Salex E. Alibogha, Dean of the College of Nursing, the amount of Five Million Pesos has to be raised for the said project by 2018. The realization of the Virtual Laboratory is in compliance of the College’s application for Center of Excellence.
A partnership agreement was signed between the Rotary Club of Jaro Centraline and the event sponsors: The CPU Alumni Association, Inc. and Central Philippine University, The CPU Office of Communications; Allianz PNB Life and the Philippine Extreme Sports Explorer Club (PESEC), Inc. (Technical Consultant and Race Organizer).

The 2017 Alumni Homecoming of CPU promises to be an exciting event which will extend not only the program and fellowship to the Centralians but new events that can bring up everyone to the next level. Beyond the usual, the list of events this year will include physical fitness segments and enjoyable collective participation.
CPUAAI President Daniel P. Dorillo, presiding the Council of Presidents meeting at the Alumni Affairs Office on Thursday, September 7, lifted up the Central Spirit as he gave the list of events to the representatives. The reason is that there are more than meets the eye in the Homecoming days.
The Central Spirit is alive – the CPU Alumni Association Chapter presidents and representatives gathered to discuss ideas and plans for the alumni and the university.
Here are the events that would effectively impact on the physical fitness aspect of the attendees: September 27, 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM, CPU Campus: University Bike Ride organized by the Centralian Cruisers Cycling Club Alumni Chapter (C4). Next day, September 28 – Foot Parade starting on the CPU Grounds; Rotary Club of Jaro Centraline Alumni Homecoming Run on the 29th at 6:00AM, starting /finishing in CPU.
There is a gap to the physical fitness events – because the last day, September 30 is the big CPU Alumni Homecoming Celebration at the Rose Memorial, and the 112thCPU Foundation Day which will be held at the Fil-American Cemetery on October 1 at 6:00am. Be aware of the time since on September 30, there will be an Alumni Night at Hotel Del Rio.

Mr. Andrew Ching, President of the Philippine Haggai Institute Alumni Association and at the same time President and CEO of Williams Printing and Packaging based in Cebu visited the CPU campus last August 29, 2017. He was with his wife, Josephine Ching CFO of Williams Printing and Packaging. The couple was toured around the campus by Dr. Florentino Alerta II, CPU’s Coordinator of the Health, Fitness and Lifestyle Management, and a Batch President of a recently concluded Haggai Institute National Seminar.

Dr. Alerta introduced the Chings to Dr. Lejo Braña and the Packaging Department of the College of Engineering. They found out that CPU is capable of testing the packaging materials that they produce. Usually, their printing company would send their packaging materials outside the country to be tested. Hopefully, through this introduction,CPU will become the testing center of their company.
The Chings were in Iloilo City as facilitators/lecturersof the Haggai Institute National Leadership Seminar last August 24-28, 2017. They are graduates of the Haggai Institute Leadership Seminar in Maui, Hawaii, USA. There were 35 participants in the national seminar conducted at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.

The Vision that drives the Haggai Institute (HI) is they want to see every nation redeemed and transformed through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The HI does this through training leaders globally to impact their world locally. Past and current administrators of CPU have attended the international seminar of the Haggai Institute. Some of them are Dr. Juanito Acanto, Dr. Perla Suyo, Dr. Fely David, Dr. Lucy Catalogo, Atty. Zacarias Bedona, Prof. Rowena Libo-on, Rev. Joniel Howard Gico, Rev. Cris Amorsolo Sian, Rev. Jerson Narciso, Rev. Francis Neil Jalando-on, Engr. Amy Castigador, and Rev. Dr. Bernabe Pagara.
Also present in the graduation ceremony was Mrs. Susan Lee Chomi, the Haggai Institute Regional Representative for the Philippines. Mrs. Chomi is a Centralian and was the Philippine representative in the search for the CPU Centennial Queen last 2005.
